Baptism

Baptism

In asking to have an infant baptised, the parents are accepting the responsibility of training the child in the practice of the Christian faith. It is the duty of every Catholic parent to bring their child up to keep God’s commandments as Christ taught us, by loving God and our neighbour. A non-Catholic parent is asked to support the Catholic parent in this duty.

Depending on circumstance and availability, baptisms usually take place on the last Saturday of each month (excluding Advent and Lent) at 12 noon in St Patrick's Church, Woolston, and by special arrangements at The Annunciation Church in Netley. It is usual for more than one infant to be baptised at the same ceremony.

Should you wish your infant to be baptised please contact the Parish Office, preferably by email, Fr Ross will then ask for some more information and then some forms will be sent out for you to fill in. Once the form has been completed and returned we will arrange for you to meet with Fr Ross who will assist you with an appropriate preparation and then set a date dependant on availability. We normally ask for at least six months notice and for you to be living in the parish and be a registered parishioner.

Please note that if you belong to another Catholic parish you will need to provide us with a letter from your own parish priest giving permission for the baptism to take place in our parish.
